Abstract is the magazine of W.I.R.E. – an independent Swiss think tank exploring trends in economy, science and society supported by Collegium Helveticum of ETH Zurich, Universität Zürich and Bank Julius Bär.
Varese Corridor has conceived a visual essay paired with poetry from four centuries. It consists of pictorial collages that explore the nature of the souvenir, respectively the authenticity of memories. Commercial souvenirs of famous landmarks are contrasted with personal snapshots. The composite images from the realm of tourism point to the question whether individual memories are shaped by clichées and therefore questioning the objective value of what remains.
